Pavers, travertine, or porcelain? We looked at all three for this yard. Pavers won. • 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲. Tried and true. There's a reason they're an Arizona classic. • 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲. The most cost-effective of the three. • 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴. A quality paver holds up next to porcelain. • 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵. Longer life, less maintenance. Do Details Matter? This is something that is PURELY cosmetic, just alternating the pattern of the 12x24 gives the steps alot of little “POP” that is noticed when walking on them. Nobody likes finding out a plant is in the wrong spot after it’s in the ground. Here’s what I do before anything gets dug. 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺. Straight rows look like a parking lot. Odd spacing looks natural. 𝗠𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝘁 𝘂𝗽 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁. Pots go down and boulders get marked out before a single hole gets dug. 𝗣𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀. A sketch looks good. Standing in the yard is the real test. Your turf isn't ugly. Your installer was. Pulled this one out today. Here's what I found: • 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗳'𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝘂𝗹𝘁. The material was fine. The install was horrible. • 𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗽𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿. Pieces this big, stitched in like a quilt. Every seam is a weak spot. • 𝗡𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗱. If the base isn't flat, the turf won't be either. • 𝗕𝘂𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲. You should know who’s actually showing up at your yard before you sign. I grew up a few miles from where I build.
